Der frühere Zeitfahr-Weltmeister Rohan Dennis setzte sich auf der zweiten Etappe der Tour Down Under durch.
The German cycling team Bora-Hansgrohe narrowly missed out on its first win of the 2023 season at the Tour Down Under. Rohan Dennis (Jumbo-Visma) won the second stage out of a five-man breakaway group. Giro winner Jay Hindley finished in fifth place.

Australia's former time trial world champion Rohan Dennis (Jumbo-Visma) secured victory in the first World Tour race of 2023 in Victor Harbour after 154.8 kilometres with an attack in the final kilometre. In doing so, he distanced Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates), Mauro Schmid (Soudal - Quick Step) and Simon Yates (Jayco-AlUla) by two seconds each. The best German was 22-year-old Marius Mayrhofer (Team DSM) in eleventh place.

Dennis takes overall lead at Tour Down Under

Dennis also took the lead in the overall standings after his stage win. The 32-year-old is three seconds ahead of his compatriot Jay Vine. Mayrhofer from Tübingen is 17 seconds back in eighth place.

Friday is likely to be another hectic finale. On the 116.9-kilometre section from Norwood to Campbelltown, the up to 13 per cent steep Corkscrew Road must be tackled six kilometres before the finish, which is likely to create gaps in the peloton. The first 2023 World Tour finishes on Mount Lofty east of Adelaide on Sunday.
