The Kimpton Aysla Mallorca is bringing an extraordinary cycling event to the Balearic island in October 2025. Under the title "Contador & Basso: Pedal to Prestige", cycling enthusiasts will have the opportunity to spend four days exploring Mallorca's most scenic routes with Grand Tour legends Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso. The event, which takes place from 16 to 19 October 2025, is organised by the hotel in collaboration with SCIO. Participants can expect challenging routes through one of the most popular cycling regions in Europe, combined with culinary highlights and comfortable accommodation at the Kimpton Aysla Mallorca. The programme includes daily guided bike tours with the two former pros, personal talks and briefings as well as exclusive insights into their careers. The tours lead to authentic locations on the island and are rounded off with Mediterranean lunches and traditional dinners in selected locations.
The four tours are designed to cover the different landscapes and challenges of Mallorca. On the first day (Wednesday, 16 October), a shorter introductory tour leads from Santa Ponça to Ses Rotes Winery. At 35 kilometres in length and 400 metres in altitude, this route can be completed in a maximum of two hours. The evening ends with a dinner in the Ses Rotes wine cellar, where the participants receive a personal briefing with Contador and Basso. The second day (Thursday, 17 October) brings a more challenging tour from Campanet via Formentor to Cala San Vicenç. This route stretches over 75 kilometres with 1100 metres of ascent and takes around four hours. During the tour, a coffee break is planned at the Formentor lighthouse before a lunch by the sea in Cala San Vicenç rounds off the day.
The third day (Friday, 18 October) leads through the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, one of Mallorca's scenic highlights. The route from Santa Maria via Lluc and the famous serpentine road Sa Calobra to Cala Tuent and Port de Sóller covers 65 kilometres with an elevation gain of 1220 metres and takes around four hours. On the way, participants visit the Lluc monastery and enjoy lunch at the Es Vergeret restaurant in Cala Tuent. The return journey, which is not by bike but by boat to Port de Sóller, is particularly attractive. On the last day (Saturday, 19 October), a 50 to 60-kilometre tour with 800 to 1000 metres of ascent leads from the hotel via Sant Elm to Port Andratx. This final tour lasts around 2.5 to 3 hours and is rounded off with a brunch at the hotel before the transfer to the airport.
The "Contador & Basso: Pedal to Prestige" event is designed as an all-inclusive experience. The price of 6900 euros per person includes accommodation at the Kimpton Aysla Mallorca, full board during the entire stay, all transfers on the island, technical support during the cycling tours and participation in all the activities planned in the programme. The combination of sporting challenge, culinary delights and personal interaction with two of the most successful cyclists of their generation makes this event a special offer for ambitious amateur cyclists. The number of participants is limited, which emphasises the exclusive character of the event and enables an intensive exchange with the two cycling legends.
The event is being organised by Kimpton Aysla Mallorca, which is responsible for the logistical aspects. Technical and conceptual support is provided by SCIO as part of the "Powered by SCIO" initiative. Experienced guides are available for the cycle tours to accompany the group alongside Contador and Basso. The routes have been chosen to be both scenically attractive and interesting from a cycling point of view. With distances of between 35 and 75 kilometres per day and altitudes of between 400 and 1220 metres, they offer varying degrees of difficulty, but are easily manageable for experienced leisure cyclists. Technical support during the tours includes breakdown assistance and support vehicles so that participants can concentrate fully on the cycling experience.
