Julian Alaphilippe has had to pull out of the Tour of Spain after a crash. On Wednesday evening, his team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl gave an initial update on the world champion's injury.

According to the Belgian racing team, Alaphilippe dislocated his right shoulder in the crash. He is not said to have suffered any fractures. The Frenchman is due to travel to Belgium on Thursday, where he will undergo a further examination at the hospital in Herentals to rule out further damage.

Alaphilippe crashed heavily in April

Pictures after the crash showed Alaphilippe sitting on the road with several helpers around him. The 30-year-old had just recovered from a Corona infection recovered. In April, Alaphilippe was at Liège-Bastogne-Liège fell heavily and as a result had the Tour de France missed.
