Apidura Packable Backpack and Musette: The bags are now water-repellent & reflective

The London-based company Apidura presents the revised versions of its Packable series. The new editions of the Packable Backpack and Packable Musette build on five years of practical experience. Since the original launch, the products have accompanied riders on hundreds of different set-ups through ultra-distance events worldwide. The revision follows Apiduras "Constant Forward Progress" design philosophy and integrates findings from practical application.

Ultra-distance cycling places unique demands on the equipment. Riders often tackle stages from dawn until late at night without a support vehicle. Supplies and food have to be organised independently, often by stopping at petrol stations at night. The Packable series addresses precisely these challenges with lightweight, uncomplicated solutions. For years, drivers developed their own solutions because there was a lack of specially developed products. Apidura recognised this gap and created purpose-built alternatives for critical situations.

Material improvements and weight optimisation

The new Cordura Ripstop material forms the centrepiece of the redesign. The tighter weave structure increases durability and strength while maintaining water resistance. This choice of material makes Apidura's entire supply chain PFA-free and fulfils modern environmental standards. The construction balances robustness with minimal weight for multi-day use without compromising on durability.

The Packable Backpack weighs 110 grams and has a capacity of 13 litres. The Packable Musette weighs 58 grams and offers 7 litres of storage space. Both products can be stowed away completely in their own pockets and attached to the frame using straps. This packability makes it possible to transport unused capacity without aerodynamic disadvantages or additional air resistance during fast sections.

Focus on ergonomics and visibility

The revised chest straps utilise daisy chain and cord hook systems for a better body fit. The lower profile reduces drag and improves comfort over long distances. The harness design distributes weight more evenly and prevents pressure points during rides lasting several hours. Precise adjustment options allow for customisation to different body sizes and riding postures.

Reflective side panels on the Packable Backpack increase visibility when travelling at night. Reflective threads in the webbing of both products further enhance this effect. These safety features are particularly relevant when riders are travelling at dusk or in the dark. The integration is discreet without any visual impairment in daylight, but offers decisive advantages in poor lighting conditions.

Practical trials over five years

The development of the new generation is based on extensive feedback from the ultra-distance community. Riders tested the original versions at events such as the Tour Divide, the Transcontinental Race and other multi-day challenges. This practical experience flowed directly into the product improvements. Weak points were identified and systematically eliminated, while proven features were retained.
