Like all major discounters, Aldi rolls out pallets of cycling accessories to its stores just in time for the start of spring - and what used to be more of a side note has long since developed into a wide range that is in high demand. The promotional goods are clearly aimed at everyday and leisure cyclists who are looking for affordable cycling clothing or functional accessories. However, the TOUR-Check proves that ambitious cyclists can also find suitable accessories at Aldi.

A first conclusion

The price-performance ratio of the floor pump, the light set and the gloves convinced us. All in all, this shopping basket cost us less than 25 euros, and for that we got really decent, functioning products.

The floor pump at a price of nine euros stands firmly on the ground, the valve is easy to operate and the pressure gauge is very easy to read. The premium LED bike light set with front and rear light (with integrated brake light) is an absolute bargain at a price of 10 euros.

In terms of light output and ease of use, the headlight and rear light are in no way inferior to comparable products from well-known manufacturers. Only the brackets made for round handlebars and seat posts cause problems for owners of aero bikes with aerodynamically optimised cockpits and seat posts.

A pair of gloves costs 5 euros, half the price of a floor pump or rear light, but a fraction of the price of cycling gloves from well-known brands. Tip: Choose one or two sizes smaller, as they run large.

How do you like this article?

The floor pump - 8,99 Euro

The floor pump from Aldi features a robust steel cylinder and a stable pump base with a profiled tread that provides a secure grip when pumping. The ergonomic handle with soft-touch inserts ensures comfortable operation, while the large, easy-to-read pressure gauge displays pressures of up to 11 bar. The universal double pump head is suitable for Presta and Schrader valves, i.e. for bicycle and car valves, making the pump extremely versatile. An adapter set for balls, air mattresses and other inflatables is also included, which significantly extends the range of applications.

Technical data

  • Robust steel cylinder
  • Universal double pump head for Schrader, Presta and Dunlop valves
  • Stable pump foot with profiled running surface
  • Ergonomic handle with soft-touch inserts
  • Includes adapter set for air mattresses, toys, balls, etc.
  • Easy-to-read pressure gauge up to 11 bar (160 psi)

Our test conclusion

The floor pump from Aldi makes a solid impression. Thanks to its low overall height of 71 cm, smaller people can manage it well, while taller people have to bend down more - the handle is also rather compact. The large pressure gauge with external bar scale, which is rarely found in this price range, is very successful. The stability could be better, but is sufficient for pressures up to five bar without any problems. The pump head works reliably with Presta and Schrader valves (bicycle and car valves), the 110 cm long hose is practical. Plus points for the accessory compartment and the customer-friendly three-year warranty.

The Premium LED Lamp Set - 9.99 euros

The premium LED light set consists of a front light with an integrated display that shows the battery status and light level, as well as a rear light with an intelligent brake light function. The headlight offers four switchable light levels up to 100 lux and automatically adapts to the surroundings thanks to the light sensor. A 1,800 mAh battery ensures long runtimes and is charged via USB-C. The rear light uses bright OSRAM LEDs, is protected to IP55 and can be mounted without tools. Both lights have quick-release brackets and offer lateral visibility for greater safety.

Technical data

  • Integrated display for battery capacity and light level
  • Lithium-ion battery with 1,800 mAh
  • Four light levels: 100 / 70 / 30 / 15 lux
  • Automatic brightness adjustment via light sensor
  • USB-C connection, incl. charging cable
  • Side lighting
  • Adjustable tilt angle
  • Headlight runtime (highest light level): 2.5 hours, half hour reserve

Rear light:

  • Emergency brake light function (lights up several times in the event of heavy deceleration)
  • Integrated brake light function via motion sensor
  • A permanently lit LED
  • Li-Po battery with 300 mAh
  • OSRAM LEDs
  • Tool-free assembly
  • Quick-release brackets
  • Protection class IP55
  • Low battery indicator
  • Lighting time: max. 12 hours (depending on the brake light used)

Our Test conclusion

The lamp sets from Aldi used to offer solid basic quality, but now the USB-C chargeable Ride+Go set with OSRAM LEDs for ten euros can easily keep up with branded products in the lower price range from around 50 euros. The 134 g headlight impresses with an almost glare-free carpet of light and good illumination. The battery indicator works reliably, and the reserve indicator for half an hour of remaining light is also excellent. When fully charged, the headlight shines for two and a half hours at the highest light level. The 37 g rear light shines brightly and offers 180 degree visibility to the rear and side; the integrated brake light worked reliably in the test. We also liked the manageable charging time of two hours and the intuitive operation. The mounts fit on round handlebars and seat posts, but still work on slim aero shapes up to approx. 30 mm. Plus point: three-year guarantee.

The Crane ladies' and men's cycling gloves - €4.99

The short-cut cycling gloves consist of a knitted back of the hand with elasticated spandex and air-permeable mesh fabric on the thumb. They are available in black, grey and blue and come in men's and women's sizes. Lightweight, flexible and with practical removal aids and reflective elements, they are suitable for everyday wear and leisure activities.

Technical data

  • Knitted back of the hand: 87 % polyester, 13 % spandex
  • Mesh fabric and outer thumb: 100 % polyester
  • Colours: black, grey, blue
  • Sizes: Ladies: S (7) - M (8), Men: M (8) - XL (9,5)

Test conclusion

The gloves are comparatively large, so we recommend choosing one to two sizes smaller. They then fit well and offer a comfortable grip. The gel pads are not bulky and provide direct contact with the handlebars. The removal aids are practical and the reflective strip increases visibility in road traffic. The quality of workmanship corresponds to the favourable price level and is absolutely sufficient for everyday use.

What Aldi bike products are good for

Aldi surprises with solid quality at very low prices. The floor pump works reliably and scores points with its large pressure gauge, even if it is a little low for tall riders. The LED light set impresses with its strong luminosity, good battery life and useful brake light function - a real highlight. The cycling gloves fit well in a smaller size, offer direct contact with the handlebars and are well made. All in all, a strong price-performance package for everyday cyclists and cyclists.
