Castelli launches the second generation of the Espresso series. The jersey continues to use the Air_0 stretch fabric with 105 g/m² and UPF 30 sun protection. The women's bib shorts have a higher waistband and a revised drop-tail construction. Both gender versions use the Progetto X2 Air Seamless chamois. The jersey costs 130 euros, the bib shorts 180 euros.

After two years of feedback from riders, Castelli is revising its best-selling clothing line. The changes affect the fit, cut and material processing of the jersey and bib shorts.

Jersey with stretch fabric

The Espresso 2 jersey is available in short and long sleeve versions. The Italian manufacturer uses its own Air_0 stretch fabric. The material has high horizontal elasticity for a comfortable fit and limited vertical stretch to stabilise the back pockets. The reduced Lycra content is designed to improve moisture management. The knitted fabric offers 30 sun protection and blocks 97 per cent of UV radiation.

The women's version is longer at the back panel. This makes it easier to access the pockets. The men's version has adjustments to the fit. Both versions feature repositioned tone-on-tone logos and an extended colour palette.

The men's jersey is available in ten colours: Mango Mojito, Clay, Smoky Gray, Black, Belgian Blue, Vivid Orange, Paprika, Ivory, Neon Cobalt and Deep Mocha. The women's version comes in eight colours: Mango Mojito, Purple Mist, Winter Sky, Pink Giro, Black, Belgian Blue, Ultraviolet and Silver Moon.

Bib shorts with Progetto X2 Air seat pad

The Espresso 2 DT women's bib shorts show the biggest changes. A higher waistband with lightweight mesh material supports the centre area and creates a smoother transition to the jersey. The revised drop tail and more elasticated straps allow for comfortable toilet breaks without having to take them off.

The men's bib shorts feature softer elasticated straps and a raised waistband. Both models use contrasting logos, raw-cut leg ends with silicone grippers and the Progetto X2 Air Seamless chamois. The pad is available in gender-specific shapes for long-distance support.

The Espresso Doppio fabric from Italian production forms the basis of both bib shorts. The material contains 27 per cent Lycra and has a matt finish.

Assortment and availability

Steve Smith, Global Brand Manager at Castelli, explains the revision: "The original Espresso range got the basics right - all-day comfort and everyday performance for all purposes. With Espresso 2, every aspect has been scrutinised: Jersey fit, trouser construction and base materials.

The collection is complemented by a long-sleeved jersey, waistcoat, gloves, socks and cap.

The men's bib shorts are available in eight colours: Belgian Blue, Dark Gray, Silver Moon, Smoky Gray, Black, Elmwood, Deep Bordeaux and Paprika. The women's version comes in six colours: Ultraviolet, Belgian Blue, Black, Deep Bordeaux, Clay and Paprika.
