Bespoke saddles: Selle Italia launches the UNICA range featuring 3D-printed saddles

Selle Italia is presenting the UNICA range at the International Bike Festival. The Italian saddle manufacturer from Asolo is using idmatch technology to produce saddles tailored to individual body measurements. The 3D structure of the saddle’s surface is no longer produced using standardised cushioning zones, but is designed according to the rider’s actual pressure points.

The bespoke saddle will be ready in three weeks​

The programme is run through authorised centres, where bike fitters take the measurements and send the data to Selle Italia. After three weeks, the finished saddle is delivered and fitted. The programme is available for the SLR 3D Carbon, SLR 3D Elite and Novus Boost Evo 3D models.

The saddle fitting process

The process begins at authorised UNICA centres, where qualified bike fitters carry out the measurements. First, a biomechanical analysis is performed using a digital camera. The idmatch Pressure Map System is then used to record the load zones and pressure distribution on the saddle. The bike fitter uploads the collected data to the idmatch portal. Selle Italia uses this data to create a bespoke 3D structure tailored to the rider’s anatomical profile. After three weeks, the finished saddle is delivered to the centre, where the bike fitter fits it and adjusts its biometric position on the bike.

Available models and specifications

The UNICA range is available exclusively for Selle Italia models with a 3D surface. These include the SLR 3D Carbon, the SLR 3D Elite and the Novus Boost Evo 3D. The name UNICA is derived from the Italian word for ‘unique’ and refers to the one-of-a-kind nature of each saddle. Riders can have the saddle personalised with their name. The saddle is delivered in special packaging containing the graphical reports from the Pressure Map measurement and an identity card for the rider and the saddle.
