Tailfin HydroMount is a versatile solution for mounting bottle cages without the need for existing threads. The system supports up to 1.5 kilograms, is based on the proven V-Mount technology and is equipped with a rubber-like protective cover that protects sensitive frame surfaces. We have tested how the HydroMount from Tailfin works.

The HydroMount is a solution for bikes that lack classic threaded mounts or have an unfavourable position. The system allows bottle cages to be mounted in almost any position on the frame - an advantage especially for small frame sizes, fullys or bikes with little space in the frame triangle. The design is based on the Tailfin frame bags V-Mount technology, which prevents slipping and reliably protects the frame from scratches thanks to a soft protective layer.

The standardised 64 mm thread spacing ensures compatibility with common brackets. Depending on the version, the system can hold up to 1.5 kilograms: the basic version with two straps holds one kilo, the full version with three straps holds more. The moulded threaded inserts fit the enclosed Inhex screws with a diameter of five millimetres (Torx 25), and screw locking is already applied to the threads to prevent the screws from accidentally coming loose in rough terrain. The HydroMount can be fitted without tools thanks to the rubber strap.

Quick to fit, good hold

We mounted the Tailfin adapter on the brand-new Rose Shave Ultegra Di2 in various positions with different pipe cross-sections. The rubberised rail with a total length of 11.4 centimetres has the best grip on round, cylindrical pipes. In this case, the V-profile fits best and sits firmly. However, the holder also adheres well to a flat top tube if it is lashed tightly with the rubber straps. Fitting and removing the 45 gram HydroMount takes no longer than 30 seconds; the tabs in which the protruding strap can be neatly parked are practical. Tip: Before buying, check the frame to see if it offers a suitable mounting position.
