Magagnotti was certainly regarded as a dark horse in the Deutschland Tour’s field, which lacked sprinters; however, the fact that he was able to prevail against the Frenchman after 197 kilometres, starting in Schwäbisch Hall, came as a massive surprise. The youngster is actually still part of the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe U23 team. Yet this true rookie showed that he is destined for greater things.

Third place in Offenbach went to the Portuguese rider Iuri Leitao (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA), ahead of the four Germans Max Walscheid (Lidl - Trek), Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain - Victorious), Tobias Müller (Unibet Rose Rockets) and John Degenkolb (Team Picnic PostNL). Henri Uhlig (Alpecin - Premier Tech) also made it into the top 10, finishing ninth.

At the very front, however, was Alessio Magagnotti. This is his first victory in a professional race, having already won the U23 events at the Istrian Spring Tour in Croatia and the Tour de Bretagne earlier in the season. In the elite category, his best result to date had been second place in a stage of the Boucles de la Mayenne at the end of May.

​"This is simply unbelievable. A huge thank you to Danny van Poppel, Jarrad Drizners and the whole team," said Magagnotti. "They prepared me brilliantly for this success and positioned me perfectly. I tried to conserve as much energy as possible and listen to the team’s advice. Over the last 50 metres, I simply gave it my all and managed to come out on top. For me, this is a dream come true. Right now, I just want to savour this moment.”

In the overall standings, Frenchman Louis Barré (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) remains in the lead. However, Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates - XRG), in second place, managed to reduce his deficit to six seconds by securing bonus seconds along the route. The mountains’ jersey remains with REMBE | rad-net, but has passed from Miguel Heidemann to Ole Theiler, who once again made his mark as a breakaway rider. Del Toro continues to lead the points classification.

Here’s how the second stage of the 2026 Lidl Deutschland Tour went

Once again, it was the German continental teams that dominated the first part of the day. Theiler had already been in the mix the previous day; Ben Felix Jochum (Team Lotto Kern-Haus Outlet Montabaur) and the Spaniard Alvaro Sagrado (Team Storck – MRW Bau) formed a leading trio that managed to build a lead of up to two and a half minutes over the peloton.

Sagrado claimed the day’s only mountain classification after 39 kilometres, but Theiler also managed to pick up a point, thereby securing the mountains’ jersey. After that, very little happened on the course. Whilst the peloton slowly made up seconds in the rain that had started to fall, Sagrado won the next two intermediate sprints.

At the third, 20 kilometres from the finish, they were unable to keep up. The UAE Team had timed their catch-up perfectly to allow Del Toro to pick up three bonus seconds there. The peloton briefly split apart, but everyone came back together again. And so it came down to a sprint, which ended in a rather surprising result with Magagnotti, the youngster, taking the win.
