Dennis became world champion in the individual time trial in 2018 and 2019 and also won at least one stage in the three major national tours. He is sometimes considered an unconventional professional when it comes to equipment. At the 2019 Tour de France, Dennis dropped out on the twelfth stage for unknown reasons. A few weeks later, he fell out with his former team Bahrain-Victorious and the contract was cancelled after just eight months without giving any reason.
After two mixed years with the team Ineos Dennis moved to Jumbo-Visma in 2022but missed out on a nomination for the tour. This year he celebrated on the second stage of the Tour Down Under his 32nd professional victory, but played no role in the battle for overall victory.
