After the Corona exit of cycling world champion Remco Evenepoel At the Giro d'Italia, German hopeful Lennard Kämna is not in a "huge panic". "I don't know if we'll make any major changes. We're not afraid of Covid. It's the way it is. We're trying to be as clean as possible in our bubble and of course we're trying not to get sick," said Kämna in a media round on the first rest day.
Evenepoel withdrew from the tour shortly after winning the time trial and taking the pink jersey due to a positive test. "It's like any other illness. If you get it, you're out. That doesn't change our approach much. Of course we sanitise our hands and wear masks. We're being careful, but there's no huge panic in the team," added Kämna, who is currently in eighth place overall.
Evenepoel's withdrawal will not change the strategy of the German Bora-hansgrohe team that much, added the 26-year-old. "But of course it will change the dynamics of the race."
Kämna is satisfied with his performance in the first stages. "So far, it's a nice experience," said the German time trial champion, who is tackling the overall classification in a grand tour for the first time in his career: "It's a big change from chasing stages. But I quite like it. I'm enjoying it." His goal remains to finish in the top ten overall.
