After 179 kilometres from Chongzuo to Jingxi, Max Kanter (XDS Astana Team) was unable to finish at the front this time and was the best German in sixth place. Niklas Behrens (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), Max Walscheid (Team Jayco AlUla) and Kim Heiduk (INEOS Grenadiers) finished 11th, 15th and 16th respectively. Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain - Victorious) did not make it to the finish with the peloton. This was due to a climb around 40 kilometres before the finish, which had the best potential to prevent a bunch sprint. In the end, however, almost the entire peloton crossed the finish line together.
"It was fast today and the breakaway was strong, but Warre was incredibly strong and motivated to do a great job, especially because he won here last year and we wanted to get the win again," Magnier praised his team-mate Vangheluwe in a statement from his team. "I saved energy in the peloton, then Dries Van Gestel put me in a perfect position for the finishing straight and I did my best in the sprint. I'm happy with my two wins so far and we'll see what we can achieve in the remaining stages."

After a rainy start, the day's leading group formed in small chunks over the first few kilometres. Kevin Geniets (Groupama - FDJ) was initially joined by Stan Dewulf (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), before Simon Guglielmi (Arkéa - B&B Hotels), Frank van den Broek (Team Picnic PostNL) and Peter Øxenberg (INEOS Greandiers) also joined them. Finally, the group also waited for Michael Valgren (EF Education - EasyPost).
At the first bonus sprint 80 kilometres before the finish, the breakaway had a lead of just under one and a half minutes. Dewulf was the one with the greatest interest in points and seconds. At the back of the peloton, XDS Astana for Kanter, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe for Jordi Meeus and Soudal Quick-Step for Magnier were working to ensure that this gap did not widen. On the climb 40 kilometres before the finish, first Guglielmi, then Geniets and Valgren had to let go. Meanwhile, there were also tentative attempts in the peloton to use the long but not very steep climb to prevent a bunch sprint, but the sprinter teams prevented this.
The mountain classification and the first eight points of the tour were finally secured by Øxenberg, who also claimed the second bonus sprint eleven kilometres before the finish and then dropped into the peloton, which was less than half a minute behind. Six and a half kilometres before the finish, van den Broek was also finished, and one kilometre later Dewulf was also dropped.
It was Jhonatan Narvaez (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) who then tried again to prevent Magnier from winning with a late attack. But in the bunch sprint, the Frenchman was, as so often recently, in a class of his own.
