Twelve seconds ultimately separated Longo Borghini from stage and overall runner-up Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv - AlUla - Jayco). Femke de Vries (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) reached the finish of the 156-kilometre stage, the last eleven of which were the final climb, in third place. As expected, neither the only German in the race, Franziska Koch (FDJ United - SUEZ), nor the dominator of the first three days, Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx - Protime), played a role in the final.
Longo Borghini attacked 3.6 kilometres before the finish from a five-man lead group around Trinca Colonel, de Vries, Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM - zondacyrpto) and Niamh Fisher-Black (Lidl - Trek). At first, only de Vries was able to follow halfway. Niewiadoma also fought back briefly with a show of strength, but the Polish rider later had to pay for it and was passed by a good distance. Trinca Colonel was different: she set her own pace from the start and fought her way to the front.
"I didn't really know what my form would be like because we perhaps took it a little easier in the winter," said Longo Borghini in the winner's interview. "That's why it was a little harder for me to win this year than last year. But I'm all the happier that it was enough." For the frontwoman of UAE - ADQ, the stage and overall victories were the 57th and 58th of her career.
